The advantages and operation of the water mist system

“Water mist” is a fine water spray in which the water volume, being in the form of droplets, have less than 1000 microns in diameter.

As an integrator and installer of ANSUL water mist systems, we propose the efficient AQUASONIC fire protection system.

This high-performance water spray system is specially designed to protect special risk applications, including combustion turbine enclosures, mechanical rooms, generator enclosures and flammable liquid storage areas. In fact, the high performance fire suppression system is specially designed to cover a wide range of industrial, commercial and institutional applications with particular risks.

The ANSUL® AQUASONIC Fire Suppression Water-Spray System is a revolution in Class B fire protection technology. The atomizers propel the droplets at high speed throughout the combustion zone. The AQUASONIC sprayer is made of machined stainless steel to maximize strength, has few internal moving parts for greater reliability, and offers several mounting options to facilitate the installation process.

A pair of supersonic atomizers can produce 1.5 trillion water droplets per second. This is equivalent to covering an Olympic-sized football field in one minute. Compared to typical water mist systems, the AQUASONIC system produces a larger volume of smaller water droplets and projects them further away.

The efficiency of the AQUASONIC system* is achieved through the atomizer. This patented supersonic technology generates a low pressure zone at high velocity that attracts a thin layer of water into a primary atomization zone. A conical supersonic wave then creates an area of extreme acceleration and high shear rate, breaking the leaf into atomized droplets. The fire is extinguished only once the droplets reach the target, which allows the heat to be extracted from the fire.

*Note that this system should not be used for direct application to materials that react violently with water or produce dangerous particles.

This concept complies with NFPA 750 standards.

An eco-responsible alternative

AQUASONIC stands out from other fire extinguishing systems. Traditional CO2 systems have not proven to be environmentally friendly and water mist systems may have reached the limits of their capacity. The AQUASONIC system provides better fire suppression and remains safe for humans and the environment without toxicity.

In summary, the Aquasonic fire suppression system is:

  • Fast because it discharges it at high volume and high speed.
  • Smart because it uses one third of the water compared to high-pressure water fog systems.
  • Low pressure because it takes less than 10% of the pressure required for high-pressure water mist systems.

Capable of automatic detection and actuation and/or remote manual actuation, the system is installed and maintained only by authorized ANSUL distributors such as us.
