The requirements for fire safety are set by the National Fire Code, however, they must take into account the particularities of Quebec. In addition, we must also consult the authorities having jurisdiction (municipal regulations, engineer etc …)

  • Why did I receive a notice from the fire department for my fire alarm system?

    Owners of buildings with more than 2 floors and more than 8 units must upgrade their alarm and fire detection system. This regulation issued by the building authority has been in effect since March 18, 2016. This notice from the fire department of your municipality requires compliance or you will be fined or threatened of the temporary closure of your facility. That is to say, the upgrade of the fire alarm system consists in adapting the existing system so that it complies with the requirements and the municipal regulations in force.     Currently the emphasis of the upgrade in an apartment building is the addition of a buzzer in each apartment. In some cases, following the addition of these new alarms, the control panel modification may be required to increase the functional capability. Note that the modernization does not necessarily imply compliance of the fire alarm system according to the Construction Code.
